NINE LESSONS AND CAROLS

CHOIR HOLIDAY IN BALLYCASTLE

We love music at St. Hilda’s. For over 100 years it has been woven inextricably into our pattern of worship. We draw on a rich heritage of church music from many centuries, complemented by worthy contemporary pieces. This approach enables us to keep our worship fresh, whilst respecting our heritage and the richness of our liturgy.

We have a robed choir of between 15 and 20 members which is affiliated to the Royal School of Church Music and junior members work within that scheme to attain their ribbons.

Music covers a wide range of styles and anthems are regularly sung during the 10.30am services. The choir also sing at weddings when requested and occasionally at funerals. There is a regular weekly choir practice preparing music for Sunday worship. Our hymn books are Common Praise and Mission Praise. We welcome singers of all ages and abilities as members of our choir. All of our members share a love of music, a spirit of enthusiasm and fun, and a commitment to attend practices and worship.

In the year 2000, three of our choristers- Len York, Gerry Nixon and Peter Stokes had served a total of 173 years between them. They were presented with long service medals from the Royal School of Church Music by the Bishop of Southwark, Rt. Revd. Tom Butler on June 25th.

To find out more about joining our choir, please get in touch with our Vicar.

David also directs an orchestra which provides accompaniment to our Family and Parade Service on the second Sunday of the month at 10.30am.
