THE NARROW ROAD

By Paul Birch

Director; Paul Burbridge

Designer; Sean Cavanagh

‘A moving combination of powerful  theatre meditation and corporate worship;’

Amid the heat and beauty of ancient Palestine, a man stands on a dusty road.

An extraordinary journey will take place; one which will re-trace the footsteps of Jesus into a world of miracles and madness, violence and liberation. As the Narrow Road is walked, this turbulent world is turned upside down; its inhabitants confronted by an unexpected and surprising vision.

Meeting the characters and re-living the events of the gospels, this passion story takes its audience back along that original road, through the place of the cross and into the challenge of a life beyond. Compellingly performed.

‘The Narrow Road’ asks each of us to review the understanding and practice of our own faith in relation to that journey today.

This very talented theatre company is coming to St. Hilda’s Church to present                                    ‘The Narrow Road’  on Wednesday March 31st 2010.

MARCH 31st

                                         Lent Course at St Hilda's

The cross of Jesus is at the heart of our faith and daily lives. This Lent, there is an opportunity to reflect on what the cross means to disciples in the 21st century.

We shall be exploring "When I Survey... Christ's cross and ours", a special course in the weeks running up to Easter. The themes include: the place of silence in a noisy world, despair and hope, suffering and discipleship.

The course is not 'booky'. But it is stretching. We shall meet between 7.30pm and 9pm on five consecutive Wednesdays between February 24 and March 24 in the Choir Vestry.

Each of the five sessions will have questions designed to stimulate lively discussion and will also involve listening to the thoughts of three Christians - John Bell of the Iona Community, General Sir Richard Dunnatt who was the head of the Army until recently and Christina Baxter, principal of St John's Theological College in Nottingham. Please get in touch with the Vicar if you are interested or simply turn up, taste and see. [For more information about the course go to www.yorkcourses.co.uk]
