JANUARY RAMBLE

LANGLEY BRANCH CANAL

This month’s ramble is on Saturday, 14th August and, yes, it’s the Ironbridge Gorge again!! Let’s hope that, after two aborted attempts we will actually make it this year! If this one is rained off, it will get firmly kicked into touch.

To get there, make your way to Bridgnorth using the route you favour most [I always go through Stourbridge, Enville and Six Ashes]. Do NOT go round the bypass but go over the old bridge and then follow the road round the base of the hill and eventually turn right on to the B4373 signposted Broseley.

When you get to Broseley, do not go into the town centre but follow the B4373 round to the right and drop steeply down the side of the Severn Gorge. At the point where the road does a 180 degree turn around a hairpin bend, carry straight on along the dead-end road and this will lead you to the car park by the iron bridge [pay and display]. Assemble by the Tourist Information Office at the end of the car park for a 1.30 p.m. start. Drivers, allow about 75 minutes. Please be aware that there is one steepish climb on this walk as we go up the side of the Severn Gorge!!

For further details see Derek or ring him on 429 8314. There are many local pubs and cafes in the town for those who want a pint and/or some food before or after the walk.
