The next walk will take place on Saturday, 20th October and we will hopefully be walking around Shustoke, a location we haven’t visited for about 11 years, when our first Sponsored Ramble was held here. To get to the start, follow M5 north and M6 east. If possible, join the M5 at Junction 1 [West Bromwich] to avoid the roadworks. If you are thinking you might go round the Birmingham Inner Ring Road and the Aston Expressway to join the M6 at Spaghetti Junction, remember that there are extensive roadworks on the ring road at the junction with the A34 and also at Dartmouth Circus and these can cause long delays. Continue on the M6 to Junction 4 [A446], remembering to avoid going on to the M42 at Junction 4A. Leave the M6 at Junction 4 and turn left on to the A446. Immediately keep straight on at the roundabout, heading down the dual carriageway of the A446. At the next roundabout, turn right on to the B4114, signposted Shustoke. Go through the edge of Coleshill, going straight over at the crossroads and after about 3 miles you will come into the village of Shustoke. As soon as you see the village sign and the 30 mph notice, turn left into the Severn Trent Reservoir car park [NOTE: this turn isn’t clearly signposted and is easily missed; if you see the village green/pub on your right, you’ve passed it!!]. This is now possibly pay-and-display, so bring some change with you. Assemble here for a 12.30 p.m. start. Drivers, allow about 70 minutes in case of traffic problems. For further information, see Derek or ring him on 429 8314 and do this anyway if the weather is dodgy.
